Multi-scale modeling and simulation of IR radiative drying for coil coating processes

The present work reports the development of a multi-scale model to predict and control drying behavior coated substrate under infrared (IR) radiant burners. accounts for simultaneous heat mass transfer in liquid film layer, characterized by binary polymer-solvent solution. developed works with two distinguished scales, micro(coating film)- macro(oven)-scale, which are connected an iterative two-way coupling procedure. Along iterations procedure solution converges until it fulfills convergence parameter prescribed. is widely validated reference results inspecting criterion. Parametric studies performed investigate effect radiative over convective heating influence specific oven operating conditions. It follows that means energy minimizes consumption, lowers time, higher efficiencies achieved than conventional drying.
